City pleased with own ambulance service

Las Vegas officials are giving themselves high marks for ambulance services they have provided the past year.
In November 1998, the city council approved a plan to allow the Las Vegas Fire Department to transport up to 10 percent of the calls within the city limits, with American Medical Response handling the rest.
Fire officials said at the time they could handle the responsibility without adding more staff or equipment.
Fire Chief Mario Trevino said Wednesday the department has met its goal.
The city has collected nearly $338,000 so far for its efforts and Trevino said fees from transports should reach $625,000 when all outstanding bills are paid.
