The one-eighth cent increase will raise the county's sales tax from the current 6.75 cents per dollar to 6.875 cents per dollar.
The increase is required as the county's match for state funds approved by the Nevada Legislature for school district with unsafe schools and no money to fix them.
Counties receiving the state assistance are required to establish a fund for public improvements.
White Pine School District received $10 million in November for school construction. The district plans to spend $5.8 million to build a school in Lund and $3.6 million for a new school in Pleasant Valley.
The remaining $600,000 is to go toward improvements at White Pine Middle School.
