Hendershott steps down as Rebel women’s soccer coach

UNLV women's soccer head coach Staci Hendershott announced Tuesday that she will resign her coaching position to pursue other career opportunities. The resignation is effective Feb. 1.
Hendershott, the first and only coach the team has known since UNLV added the program, led the Rebels to a 15-21-1 record in her two seasons, including an 8-10 mark in 1998 that earned the squad a No. 3 ranking among best new programs in the country by Soccer Buzz magazine.
"It's been a great two years at UNLV, and I'm happy to have had the experience," Hendershott said. "However, I feel the need to pursue other career options at this time."
UNLV has named Dan Abdalla interim head coach. Abdalla, a former standout goalkeeper for the UNLV men's soccer team, served as Hendershott's assistant coach last year.
UNLV Associate Athletics Director Lisa Kelleher said that a search for Hendershott's replacement will begin immediately, and that Abdalla will be a candidate for that position.
