Letter: School Board has serious problems
Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000 | 9:19 a.m.
The current school district is the eighth largest in the United States with 217,000 students and is ruled by seven members who apparently are hopelessly split and who reportedly have problems trusting each other.
After wasting about $100,000 in an aborted attempt to find a new superintendent of schools, they want to spend another $150,000 in another search with the same contractor. This apparent waste marathon seems to propagate itself without success or any accountability to the public.
The capabilities of a fractious School Board to act in behalf of our children are in serious doubt, as demonstrated by their poor track record in hiring a superintendent. We have hope that the capable James Rogers can run things in the interim. Meanwhile either the School District can be segmented or the board will resign or be replaced.
