Employees Association stands against YMCA hiring

The Las Vegas City Employees Association is attempting to block a city plan to hire the YMCA to run a new recreation center in the northwest part of the valley.
The union says a collective bargaining agreement provides that the city fill the jobs with union workers.
"By privatizing the center with the YMCA, you take away jobs from city employees," said Peter Alpert, a union attorney.
In a complaint filed with the Local Government Employee-Management Relations Board, Alpert claimed that the city council violated the collective bargaining agreement and civil service laws. He asked the board to void the YMCA contract.
