Letter: Casinos paid price for their greed
Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 | 10:05 a.m.
And despite the industry's claims that this New Year's was a success, that is merely spin control. The facts speak for themselves. Of the more than 750,000 people that the industry predicted would visit Las Vegas for the millennium celebration, less than a third of that number actually showed up. And those who did show up will never forget what a major disappointment the nonobservance of the millennium was in our city.
I hope the appallingly selfish hotel-casino industry learns a hard lesson from this. People have better ways to spend their hard-earned dollars than to waste them on exorbitant rates charged by a greedy industry.
