The city of Las Vegas is offering part of Town Center, in the fast-growing northwest, for a UNLV satellite campus.
Mayor Oscar Goodman and City Councilmen Larry Brown and Michael Mack, who represent the Town Center area that one day figures to have 250,000 residents, made the proposal Thursday to the Board of Regents.
"Share our vision of a partnership between the University System and our city," Goodman said. No vote was taken by the 11-member board because it was an informational item.
A choice of three large parcels is being offered for the Town Center UNLV campus:
The parcels are owned by the Bureau of Land Management, but the city has long-term leases on the land.
The Town Center satellite campus is the fourth such higher educational center planned within the city limits. The UNLV Maryland Parkway main campus is outside the city limits in Clark County.
The other city sites for UNLV are a downtown campus and a campus on 12 acres at the Las Vegas Technology Center, which is leased at $1 a year for 99 years.
The 56-square-mile Town Center is designed for civic use -- parks, trails, athletic fields, etc. -- as well as commercial and office space and high-density residential development.
