Fund-raising for KNPR hits new website

Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 | 10:20 a.m.

In an effort to raise funds without interrupting its news and classical music programs, listener-supported public radio station KNPR 89.5 FM is conducting its first Internet-based pledge drive.

Net Pledge 2000 begins Thursday and continues through Jan. 24. Residents wanting to support the station through pledges can visit its website (www.knpr.org). Pledgers will have a chance to win daily prizes or the grand prize, a Sony laptop computer.

"Over 80 percent of KNPR listeners have access to a computer at home or work," station president and general manager Lamar Marchese said. Marchese added that the Internet pledge drive is less intrusive than interrupting regular programming, something he thinks members might appreciate.

Westwood Studios, which publishes personal computer and console games such as Dune 2000 and the Lands of Lore, is helping KNPR develop the layout and design of the site. The company is donating the Sony laptop computer and gift certificates for Westwood Studios products.
