LOS ANGELES -- Hughes Electronics Corp. left the aerospace industry with a $3.75 billion deal to sell its satellite manufacturing business and related operations to the Boeing Co.
The sale announced Thursday provides a big boost to Boeing's growing space business. At the same time, Hughes, the company that once built airplanes and government spy satellites, will be free to focus on potentially more lucrative ventures in satellite-to-home TV, wireless Internet and other commercial ventures.
