Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 | 9:22 a.m.

A Japanese company known for producing arcade games was recommended by Nevada gambling regulators Wednesday to make and distribute slot machines in the state.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board recommended that Konami Co. of Tokyo be given a gambling license. The Nevada Gaming Commission will have final say on the application at its Jan. 27 meeting.

Konami, which primarily manufactures electronic arcade games, employs 2,500 people worldwide and is expected to have 100 employees in Nevada.

Company officials predicted Konami will soon become the fastest-growing manufacturer of casino games.

In other action, the board recommended approval for the addition of sports books at the Peppermill hotel-casino in Reno and Peppermill operations at Western Village in Sparks, the Peppermill Inn in Wendover and the Rainbow Casino in Wendover.
