Open house planned at Henderson office

The Southern Nevada census offices will host an open house Jan. 20 to inform and involve elected officials, business leaders and community groups in Census 2000.

The open house is 3-5 p.m. at the Henderson Census Office, 704 W. Sunset Road, Suite B11. RSVP at 567-0922.

Jewish group schedules event at arts center

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada will be hosting its third annual Jewish Geography Night at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

The JCC saw an opportunity to connect Jews to the community by inviting then to an event where they can meet other Jews in Southern Nevada as well as people who may have come from their hometowns.

The JCC is a nonprofit organization that exists to enhance the quality of life in Southern Nevada by providing a variety of social, recreational, educational and cultural programs. For more information, call 794-0090.

Learn how to relieve stress with workshop

A three-part meditation workshop will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday, then Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.

Participation is $22. The workshop is sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

The instructor will teach participants how to reduce everyday stresses through an intense knowledge of relaxation. Participants will be taught to tap into their inner peacefulness through a series of breathing, relaxing, and focusing techniques.

The instructor will discuss the basics of meditation in a lecture format, and group meditation will follow. For more registration information, call 565-2121.

Judges, Berkley to lead panel discussion Saturday

Judges Jennifer Togliatti, Nancy Saitta and Jim Mahan and Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., will lead a panel discussion on Elections 2000 at the annual meeting of the National Organization for Women at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo.

SCORE volunteers help you get started

The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present its next Starting a New Business workshop at 8:30 a.m. next Thursday at the Foley Federal Building, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 1100.

SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, record keeping, the business plan and a check list for licensing, permits and other requirements.

Nature program set for children on Jan. 22

The Bureau of Land Management is hosting a children's nature program Jan. 22 at Red Rock Canyon.

Flying Feathers will provide a look at the different kinds of birds, from sparrows to eagles, at the park. Call the Visitor Center at 363-1922 for more information and for reservations.
