The Las Vegas Silver Bandits of the International Basketball League have won seven consecutive games on the road. Now the 10-10 team will try to continue its success at home.
The Bandits will host the league-leading Cincinnati Stuff (13-2) tonight at 7 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Las Vegas' Rocky Walls earned the IBL's Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 3 and is leading the league with an average of 12.5 rebounds per game.
Two Silver Bandits, J.R. Henderson and Isaac Burton, are among the IBL's top 10 in scoring. Henderson is second at 24.3 points per game and Burton is ninth with 17 points a game.
For the Stuff, Tremaine Fowlkes is averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. Las Vegas is 1-2 at home while Cincinnati is 5-2 on the road.
Phillies re-sign two players
Agreeing to deals with one-third of their arbitration-eligible players, the Philadelphia Phillies re-signed Kevin Jordan for $1 million and Scott Aldred for $600,000. Jordan, a 30-year-old utility infielder, reached career highs in doubles (17) and RBIs (51) last season, hitting .285 in 120 games.
Bruins' Allison out for season
Boston Bruins center Jason Allison will miss the rest of the season after deciding to have surgery -- first on his left thumb, then on his right wrist.
Allison led Boston in scoring each of his two full seasons with the team. The 24-year-old is its third-leading scorer this season with 10 goals and 18 assists in 37 games, missing five because of the wrist.
Venus out of Australian Open
Venus Williams became the second American in two days to withdraw from next week's Australian Open because of tendinitis in her left wrist. Monica Seles, a four-time champion, withdrew Tuesday, saying she wasn't ready to play after a foot injury last October. Williams was replaced as third seed in the women's draw by younger sister, Serena.
