Nevada scores tops for investment, again

Nevada surpassed 17 other mining states, as well as Mexico, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Peru and Chili, according to a survey.
The ranking was based on Nevada's appeal in mineral potential and public policy, said Russ Fields, president of the Nevada Mining Association.
Nevada scored a perfect 100 for mineral potential and 85 for public policy, which covers taxation and land-use regulations.
"Nevada was one of the few regions which placed well in both (categories)," Fields said.
Nevada produces 76 percent of all gold in the United States and 11 percent of all gold worldwide, making it the third largest gold producer in the world behind South Africa and Australia.
The survey was conducted by the Vancouver, B.C.-based Fraser Institute, an economic think tank.
