Henderson campus to dedicate building

The new Caesar J. Caviglia Academic Computing Center will be dedicated at the Henderson campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The $17 million center has doubled as campus classroom space since it opened last fall. The center is named for the Rev. Caesar J. Caviglia, former pastor of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Henderson, where classes were held before the Henderson campus was built in 1981.

Caviglia helped build support for the campus and taught anthropology, philosophy and sociology at the college. For more information call 651-7300.

Workshop to help relieve the tension

A workshop focusing on solutions for stress will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway.

The workshop will focus on issues that plague everyday life and how to cope in order to stay focused on accomplishing goals. Participation is $25 per person. The workshop is sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. Call 435-3814.

Parents will learn benefits and techniques

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host a workshop focusing on the benefits of infant massage at 2 p.m. Saturday at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. Participation is $15.

The instructor will teach parents and parents-to-be how to help their babies relax and rejuvenate through mild massaging techniques specifically geared toward infants.

Different methods of massage will be presented. Call 434-3527.

Strong Bones walk planned for Saturday

Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and Assemblywoman Merle Berman, R-Las Vegas, will be the honorary co-chairwomen for the Nevada Walks For Strong Bones 2000 that will be held 8-9 a.m. Saturday at the Belz Factory Outlet, 7400 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The purpose of the event is to increase awareness of osteoporosis, a disease that makes bones fragile and more likely to break; support osteoporosis education and research; and to raise $100,000 or more to support the efforts of the National Osteoporosis Foundation/Silver State Support Group in Nevada.

Also the first Nevada Walks For Strong Bones 2000 includes a health and fitness festival that will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the outlet mall.

Society will meet at Sahara Library

"An Introduction to Passenger Arrival Lists," will be presented by Mary Barkan when the Jewish Genealogical Society-West meets at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first-floor multipurpose room of the Sahara Library, 9600 West Sahara Ave.

All members and prospective members who are interested in researching family genealogy are invited to attend. For additional information, call 363-8230 daytime or 871-9773 after 6 p.m.

Arizona Hot Springs makes hiking list

Guided hikes and informative talks are offered by the Lake Mead National Recreation Area free at the park's Alan Bible Visitor Center northeast of Boulder City.

Reservations are required for the guided hikes. Call 293-8990.

Among the coming programs is a hike to Arizona Hot Springs.
