COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- UNLV sophomore forward Linda Frohlich has been named this week's Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
With the selection, Frohlich has become the first women's basketball player to earn the honor twice.
Frohlich helped lead UNLV to a pair of home victories during the week as it improved to 8-5 overall and has now won four of its last five games. The Lady Rebels posted a 74-56 win over Navy on Tuesday, then claimed a 79-62 victory Saturday over Valparaiso.
For the week, Frohlich totaled 45 points, 26 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals and six blocked shots during the two games. She shot .541 (19-of-37) from the field, .300 (3-of-10) from 3-point range and .800 (4-of-5) from the free-throw line. Frohlich has now recorded double-doubles in 11 consecutive games, missing the mark only in the season opener.
Against Navy, Frohlich registered game highs in points (24), rebounds (13), assists (7), blocks (4) and steals (6). She shot 10-of-19 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. In the Valparaiso game, she again topped all categories with 21 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and four steals.
Frohlich leads the conference and ranks among the nation's best in scoring (22.9 ppg), rebounding (12.1 rpg) and steals (3.75 spg).
This marks the fourth time in her collegiate career that Frohlich has won the conference player of the week honor. A native of Oldendorf, Germany, Frohlich was chosen the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 23 and earned the Western Athletic Conference Mountain Division Player of the Week twice last season en route to earning the league's Freshman of the Year award.
