Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 | 11:34 a.m.

Name: Tenecia Jackson

School: Centennial

Class: Junior

Sport: Girls Basketball

Family: Father Gene, brother Channing

Last week: Jackson helped the first-year Bulldogs improve to 18-0 on the season with three wins -- including a 42-26 victory over Pahrump Valley in the championship -- at Moapa Valley's Reid-Gardner Tournament. Jackson, who scored 26 points in an opening-round win over defending 3A state champ Moapa, was named the tournament MVP. The previous week, she was named to the all-tournament team at the Lady Bulldog Classic, which was also captured by the host Bulldogs.

This season: Jackson, Centennial's starting point guard, leads the Bulldogs in points per game (13.1) and assists (6.9) and also has 57 steals on the year. As coach Karen Weitz, who also coached Jackson at Swainston Middle School and Cheyenne, is quick to point out, the junior's contributions have gone far beyond the stat page. "When you watch 'T', it isn't always about points," Weitz said. "She distributes the ball and plays awesome defense, which are the things we stress." And Jackson's take on her club's perfect record thus far? "I had high expectations coming here, but I didn't expect to do this well right away."
