LAUGHLIN -- Laughlin recorded a 4.4 percent increase in visitor volume in October, continuing its strong performance during 1999.
The small resort city, located 90 miles south of Las Vegas, reported 380,000 visitors in October, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported. Through the first 10 months of 1999, Laughlin hosted 3.9 million visitors, a 4.8 percent increase over 1998.
Through October, Laughlin's room occupancy averaged 88.8 percent, up from 84.9 percent in 1998. Gross gaming was up 8.4 percent, to $448 million.
Rossi Ralenkotter, LVCVA vice president of marketing, attributed the stronger performance to the declining impact of Indian gaming on Laughlin. The city had seen four consecutive years of declining visitor volume numbers until 1999.
