Goldberg to be honored at convention

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 | 10:52 a.m.

Arthur Goldberg, president and chief executive of Las Vegas-based Park Place Entertainment, will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's American Gaming Lodging and Leisure Summit.

The conference will be held Feb. 9-10 at the Venetian and Paris hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. It is hosted by Las Vegas law firm Lionel Sawyer & Collins, Casino Journal Publishing Group and New York financial firm Bear Stearns & Co.

Goldberg will receive the award for "transforming a small gaming company into the undisputed giant of the (gaming) industry." Park Place completed its acquisition of Caesars World at the end of 1999.

"Mr. Goldberg has put together the largest gaming company in the world today and we believe that he has made a lasting impact on the industry," said Harvey Whittemore, chairman of the Summit and a partner at Lionel Sawyer & Collins.

Previous winners of the award include Mirage Resorts Chairman Steve Wynn, Hilton Hotels Chairman Barron Hilton, International Game Technology Chairman Chuck Mathewson and Parry Thomas, chairman of the Thomas & Mack Co.
