Contract extended for top executive

The boards of directors that control America West Airlines have given its top executive a two-year contract extension.
William Franke, who joined the airline in 1992 and serves as its chairman, president and chief executive officer, had his employment contract extended from Dec. 31, 2000, to Dec. 31, 2002.
The boards of America West Holdings Corp. and America West Airlines Inc., based in Phoenix, announced the extension today.
America West, the second-largest carrier serving Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, operates a hub with 78 daily flights to the city.
