Letter: Dr. Laura spreads hate against gays in her column
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000 | 9:33 a.m.
In her diatribe on Dec. 28, the good "doctor" faults a coalition of medical, mental health and religious organizations for sending a booklet to the nation's school superintendents, urging tolerance to their gay students.
Apparently Dr. Laura feels gay kids should not embrace their sexuality, but rather they should be subjected to wacko therapy to be, as Dr. Laura puts it, "normal" heterosexuals.
Throughout her column the "doctor" again and again uses her favorite buzz words when describing homosexuals: "abnormal," "unhealthy," etc.
I'm not a fan of her pompous self-righteous radio show, however, on rare occasions I have listened in -- and the "doctor" is usually attacking something about the "gay agenda" and oftentimes referring to gay people as "mistakes of nature," "perverts" and "diseased" and so on.
Quite often the "doctor" berates her caller if the caller does not fit her rigid form of what she considers moral upstanding behavior.
Dr. Laura certainly has a right to speak out on what she feels are the ills of society. Unfortunately the words she uses only inspire hate and division towards gays and lesbians.
Hopefully the Sun will reconsider the "doctor's" Tuesday column. Hate has no room in your otherwise fine newspaper!
