Breakfast roundtable scheduled on Friday
The Service Corps of Retired Executives and the Small Business Administration presents the Women's Business Breakfast Roundtable 7-9 a.m. Friday at the Business Information Center, 1951 Stella Lake St., Suite 30.

Henderson Parks Dept. offering workshops
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of Helping with Home Schooling workshops this month.
The first workshop will take place 1-3 p.m. Saturday and will focus on English skills such as effective letter writing, brush-up grammar, poetry and comparison/contrast papers.
The second workshop, 1-3 p.m. Jan. 15, will explore life science through topics such as insects, seeds, flowers, fruits, cells, mammals, reptiles, birds and fish.
The final workshop, 1-3 p.m. Jan. 22, will take up everyday math, including 3-dimensional shapes and geometry, graphs, averaging, ratios and probabilities, and fractions.
Participants may attend any or all of the workshops. For additional information, call 565-2880.
Workshop scheduled on ornamental grasses
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host an ornamental grasses gardening workshop 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. Participation is free.
The master gardeners will discuss a variety of ornamental and related grasses suitable for Southern Nevada, including annuals and perennials. Call 565-2880.
January big month for making donations
United Blood Services is launching a National Volunteer Blood Donor Month 1 p.m. Thursday at United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.
Community leaders, blood recipients, emergency physicians and others will be there as gubernatorial and mayor proclamations are made of January as blood donor month.
The emphasis is to ensure an adequate supply of blood in the first quarter of the new year, especially O type blood. T-shirts and refreshments will be available. Call 228-GIVE.
Quit smoking
A Freedom from Smoking clinic will take place 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Las Vegas. It's the first of seven sessions. Call 431-6333.
Radio test
An FCC-approved amateur radio exam will be held at noon Saturday at the Community College of Southern Nevada, 700 College Drive, Henderson. For information and pre-registration, call Tim Hunt at 872-5268.
Two students will visit Washington, D.C.
Two Henderson students have been appointed as Nevada delegates to the 38th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C.
Chanel McCreedy, student body president of Silverado High School, and Jeffrey Walker, student body president of Green Valley High School, will be in Washington March 4-11 for a week of study of the federal government, particularly the Senate.
Alternates were Alexis Harrington, a Cimarron-Memorial High School student, and Russell Kizor, a student at White Pine High School in Ely.
