Columnist Peter Benton: Local event raises $86,000

The Fairway to the Future golf tournament, recently hosted at Royal Links Golf Club, raised a little more than $86,000 for the Nevada Child Seekers charity.
Fairway to the Future is a not-for-profit tournament sponsored by Fox 5 and Walters Golf, proprietor of Royal Links. Proceeds from this popular event benefitted Nevada Child Seekers, a charity dedicated to locating missing and abducted children. The charity provides services to parents, including free child fingerprinting, a 24-hour support hot line, crisis counseling and information classes.
* STATE SENIORS: The final tournament of the 1999 season for members of the Nevada State Seniors Golf Club took place over the Palms Course in Mesquite.
This two-day event saw Sammy Lee win low gross honors in the first flight with a score of 80. Harry Krall, John Wakefield and Larry Turner shared low net on the first day of play with 71s.
Tim Farmer was victorious in the second flight, winning low gross with 77. Low net went to Howard Peiffer and his 67. Joe Malais followed at 68 and third with 69 was Art Sartini.
Low gross in the third flight went to Earl Nishimura who fired a 92. Low net was won by Bobby Knight and his 64. Gerry Hurley's 66 placed second while Bobby Myatt followed at 68.
The second day first flight low gross victor was Joe Stanley at 73. Wally Kitchen garnered low gross. His 71 edged Joe Jacobs and Gerry Gellner, who came in with 74s.
Dave Maddux took second flight low gross with an 81. Chuck Rasch's 68 took low net followed by Art Rubin, 71, and Joe Malais, 72.
Third flight low gross went to Al Gonzales with a 95. Low net went to Chuck Hopson at 72 with Joe Rodrigues second at 73. They were followed by Ken Call and Knight at 74.
