ATLANTIC CITY -- Atlantic City's 12 casinos hit $4.18 billion in win during 1999, a New Jersey newspaper reported Tuesday.
The figure, which is still unofficial, is a 3.27 percent increase from 1998. While an analyst wasn't impressed by the growth rate, it was the best single-year improvement for the Atlantic City market since 1995, the Press of Atlantic City reported.
Analysts and observers said they expected the Atlantic City market to continue the low-growth pattern it's seen since 1996.
"The growth rate is just tracking the rate of inflation," U.S. Bancorp Libra analyst Greg Bousquette told the Press. "Given the virtual absence of real growth in the market, I would be feeling anxious if I were Mirage (Resorts) or Boyd (Gaming) about putting a lot of money into Atlantic City. I would be really concerned."
