The Metro Police narcotics officer who shot a man last week after an undercover drug buy in the parking lot of the Fiesta hotel-casino was identified this morning as Jeffrey Vialard.
Vialard, 32, is on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
Vialard, a Metro officer for four years, shot 19-year-old Brandon Broyles in the leg and torso Wednesday about 8:50 p.m. Broyles was listed in serious condition this morning in University Medical Center.
Vialard fired three shoots as he was drug alongside a minivan driven by Broyles after three Metro officers tried to arrest Broyles and two other suspects in the parking lot.
Broyles is accused of trying to drive off when the undercover officers -- who were wearing vests identifying them as police -- tried to arrest the teen and two others in the minivan.
North Las Vegas Police are investigating the shooting as the incident occurred on the east side of Rancho Drive -- inside North Las Vegas City limits. Metro Police will conduct an internal investigation to determine if the shooting was within department guidelines.
When the Metro officers attempted to arrests the three in the minivan, one of the passengers picked up a shotgun from the floor of the minivan. As Vialard attempted to pull the man out of the minivan, Broyles is accused of driving off. Vialard's hand became tangled up inside the minivan and was drug about 25 feet before firing the shots, North Las Vegas Police said.
