Letter: Clinton: Great father of the world?
Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000 | 9:43 a.m.
This spurious story is at odds with the mountains of facts noted by observers all over the political spectrum. All of Yugoslavia has been bombed back half a century, says Fareed Zakaria, managing editor of Foreign Affairs, and more than 150,000 Serbs have found it necessary to flee Kosovo, as the illusion of ethnic harmony is in tatters.
NATO has become a latter-day colonial power in the Balkans, assuming the role once held by the Ottomans and Hapsburg empires. Moreover, we are subjected to the spectacle of the great father of the world, also known as Bill Clinton, giving pious, condescending speeches instructing Kosovars in the virtue of forgiveness.
