Two Las Vegas city councilmen say they will look at the possibility of a state law requiring metal detectors and mandatory ID badges at high schools.
Councilmen Lawrence Weekly and Michael McDonald made the commitment in a meeting Monday night of students and parents to discuss growing violence among teens in the Las Vegas Valley.
McDonald, a former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer, said if parents and students want metal detectors and mandatory badges in schools, efforts will be made to pass such a bill in the state legislature. He expressed concern about metal detectors at schools.
"If we've gone that far, I can't help think we're lost as a society," McDonald said.
