New Orleans zest marks area ball

St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation presents the 43rd annual Mardi Gras Ball, "The Fine Art of Healing," Saturday at the Bellagio hotel-casino. The valley's oldest ball will benefit the development of St. Rose Dominican Hospital's Siena campus and renovations of the Rose de Lima Campus.

Tickets for the event are $250, with sponsorship opportunities ranging from $500 to $7,500. For ticket and other information, call Marty Galloway at 914-2715.

Benefit to be held for bereaved families

The Golden Monarch Council will host a benefit afternoon tea at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Spanish Trail Country Club, 6767 W. Tropicana Ave. The event supports the hospice's Families in Focus program, a six-part, psycho-educational series for bereaved families with children ages 6 to 16. The program's goal is to provide a safe atmosphere where families can talk about their grief and learn how to extend support and encouragement to each other after the death of a loved one.

Radio-controlled plane pilots have the field

The Las Vegas Radio Control Club is offering "Trainer Day" 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at the flying field near the Silver Bowl for those who want to learn how to fly radio controlled airplanes.

There will be a short ground school and a safety briefing. Call 451-2815.

Immunizations

Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to anyone below the age of 21. The following clinics will be open this week, March 1-7.

DISTRICT HEALTH CENTER: 625 Shadow Lane, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 3262 Civic Center Drive, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Neighborhood association

The Arbor Hill Neighborhood Association will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at 1512 Linden Ave. Arbor Hill is a nonprofit Nevada corporation dedicated to fighting crime and urban decay in Las Vegas' downtown and east side.
