Letter: Cartoon is unfair to airline workers

Monday, Feb. 28, 2000 | 9:16 a.m.

Everyone who works in the airline industry, including 130,000 Machinists Union members and those workers we don't represent, takes airline safety personally. They know that at any time a co-worker or family member could be traveling on a flight. Airline employees, especially airline maintenance technicians, do everything they can to make sure accidents don't happen. And when an accident occurs, they help discover the cause so it won't happen again.

The Machinists Union lost a member and her family on Alaska Airlines Flight 261. All of us, especially her co-workers at Alaska, feel that loss and the loss of every passenger on that plane personally. The Las Vegas Sun can do better than make light of a tragedy.
