Fire forces evacuation at casino hotel in Mississippi

Monday, Feb. 28, 2000 | 9:39 a.m.

The fire started Sunday in a housekeeping cart on the sixth floor. There were no injuries.

"The exact cause of the fire hasn't been determined," said Teri Farmer, marketing director for Harrah's Vicksburg Corp. "The fire was extinguished by staff before the fire department arrived."

Guests were put up at local hotels, Farmer said.

The fire took place in a hallway, and very few of the rooms suffered smoke damage, Farmer said.

"We've had some water damage from the water sprinkler system," Farmer said. "The casino is open. It never had any disruption at all."

The 117-room hotel was closed Sunday, but was expected to reopen on Monday.
