Letter: Wrestling with the issue
Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 | 10:48 a.m.
We have seen several youths injured while performing professional wrestling-type stunts. We must force this industry to either regulate itself or submit to state regulation.
A good start would be an announcement at the beginning of each performance (that states) the performers are actors and stunt persons who have meticulously practiced and choreographed the production for the viewer's entertainment.
If the industry is unwilling to self-regulate, then the attorney general and the Nevada State Athletic Commission should step in and force change. In these dangerous times, we can no longer allow our youth to be exposed to unchecked violence, boisterous threats, and disrespect for ring officials and rules under the guise of entertainment.
