Letter: Casino boss flaunts corporate greed
Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 | 9:10 a.m.
It just never ceases to amaze me the arrogance of the corporations that now manage our many casinos. I say this after reading the gaming section of the Sun on Feb. 15. I make reference to the statement made by Doug Hoppe, director of marketing for Sam's Town, who said, "We have very savvy locals. If you give our locals a free buffet they'll take it and walk out on you. It makes no sense for us to spend a dollar to get 50 cents."
Where did the people at Sam's Town find this college graduate? Did this youngster ever hear the words: You get more bees with honey than vinegar. A short time ago I also read that the casinos made many billions last year. Using Hoppe's reasoning it is no wonder their profits are enormous.
Everybody I talk to says the same thing: bring back the mob. When they ruled, freebies and respect from their employees were a must. Period. And guess what they made? Profits. I need not, but will say, you can take the corporations and their Hoppe mentality and stick them.
