June Bailey

June Bailey, 76, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born June 2, 1923, in Oklahoma. A resident for 15 years, she was a secretary.

She is survived by two sons, William Robert Bailey and Clayton Keith Bailey; two daughters, Sandra Stevens and Judy Hardy; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

June Banes

June Banes, 81, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born June 5, 1918, in Omaha, Neb. A resident for seven years, she was a department store saleswoman and a welder in the shipyards during World War II.

She is survived by four sons, LeRoy Daniels, Randal Daniels, Reagan Daniels and Ray Daniels, all of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Valsie P. Been

Valsie P. Been, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born March 10, 1921, in Denbo, Pa. An on-and-off resident for 36 years, she was a retired nurse, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Been of Las Vegas; one son, William H. Been Jr. of San Francisco; two sisters, Mary Sharkey of Flushing, N.Y., and Helen Huber of Ellsworth, Pa.; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in All Saints Episcopal Church, 4201 W. Washington Ave. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Lillian Bicknese

Lillian Bicknese, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health care center. She was born July 6, 1921, in New York City. A resident for 15 years, she was a retired wholesale clerk.

She is survived by one daughter, Janice Wiedemann of Las Vegas; one son, Scott Bicknese of Glendale, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 6670 W. Cheyenne Ave. Burial will be private. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Sylvia B. Brown

Sylvia B. Brown, 75, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 30, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired director of volunteers for the City of Hope, Duarte, Calif.; was employed by the Red Cross; owned the Garey Employment Agency until 1988; was active in the Pomona Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Pomona Chapter of Business and Professional Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, William A.; three sons, Michael Cichon of Chatsworth, Calif., Ken Brown of Suwanee, Ga., and William Brown II of Littleton, Colo.; four daughters, Patricia Burch of Carmichael, Calif., Susan Searing of Arcadia, Calif., and Betty Moran and Barbara Brown Williamson of Anchorage, Alaska; and 16 grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Leona Everett Burton

Leona Everett Burton, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Pitt County, N.C. A resident for six years, she was a retired Long Beach Navy Shipyard employee.

She is survived by three daughters, Alma Davidson Stevenson of Las Vegas, Lynda Burton Gilmore of California and Joy Burton Nelson of Texas; four sons, Robert O. Burton and Alva Burton, both of Las Vegas, Charles Burton of California and Julian Burton of Virginia; three brothers; four sisters; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 Maryland Parkway. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Eva Frances Byrne

Eva Frances Byrne, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Evanston, Ill. A resident for 22 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, George; four daughters, Lorna Marshall of Las Vegas, Charla Marshall of Carpinteria, Calif., Christine Balboa of San Pedro, Calif., and Michelle Cantu of Texas City, Texas; two sons, Eddie Briscoe of Las Vegas and Bob Marshall of Bakersfield, Calif.; her mother, Eva Booth of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Philip Van-Ness Clarke

Philip Van-Ness Clarke, 79, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born March 30, 1920, in California. A resident for two years, he was a distributor, an Army Air Corps veteran, received his bachelor of business administration from Loyola University in 1947 and graduated from LaJunta Army Flying School.

He is survived by his wife, Valda; four sons, Philip Van-Ness Clarke Jr. of Downey, Calif., John Michael Clarke of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Alan Clarke of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Greg Clarke of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; one daughter, Mary Chatham of McHenry, Ill.; one brother, John Desmond Clarke of Signal Hill, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Ellen Seiderman of Santa Monica, Calif., Betty Dickson of Fullerton, Calif., and Margie Perina of Downey, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Martha L. Cornelius

Martha L. Cornelius, 91, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Richmond, Va. A resident for 23 years, she was a retired teacher, a member of the Friendship Club for ballroom dancing, the YMCA and played the mother in "The Dummkopfs," a musical comedy show.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Henry P. Schlacks, and one son, Robert Cornelius of Las Vegas; three daughters, Suzy Firth and Lorraine Hanna, both of Las Vegas, and Barbara Reed of Gaithersburg, Md.; two sisters, Ida Payne of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Anna Heflin of Broad Run, Va.; two brothers, James Jeffries of Marshall, Va., and William Jeffries of The Plains, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Cheyenne. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

Keith Edward Donnelly

Keith Edward Donnelly, 33, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 22, 1966, in Miami. A resident for five years, he was a race and sports book supervisor and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy; his mother, Rosemary Donnelly, and one brother, Sean Donnelly, both of Miami.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-noon Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Christ the King Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive.

Demetrus L. Fair

Demetrus L. Fair, 15, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 10, 1984, in Las Vegas. He was a student.

He is survived by his mother, Jennena Fair, his father, Terry Harper, four brothers, Terry Harper Jr., Tywana Taylor, Terrell Harper and Rick Taylor, and one sister, Jenisha Fair, all of Las Vegas; and his grandparents, Lottie Fair and Mary Harper, both of Las Vegas, and Frank Snowden of Newellton, La.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Josephine Marie George

Josephine Marie George, 81, of Henderson died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 12 years, she was a waitress.

She is survived by one son, John George, and two daughters, Rose George and Suzanne Regich, all of Henderson; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be in Ohio.

Vonna M. Hirst

Vonna M. Hirst, 73, of Boulder City died Sunday in a local health care center. She was born May 20, 1926, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. A resident for 16 years, she was a retired restaurant manager, a member of the Community Women's Club and a volunteer at Boulder City Senior Center and Boulder City Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene F.; two daughters, Vicki L. West of Apple Valley, Calif., and Saundra Hafner of Simi Valley, Calif.; one son, Barry Hirst of Simi Valley; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Boulder City Cemetery. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Charles E. Holder

Charles E. Holder, 69, of Las Vegas died Feb. 16 in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Franklin, Ky. A resident for 49 years, he was a hospital cook and a Korean War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Cathren; two sons, Allen Holder of Las Vegas and Steve Holder of Tennessee; one daughter, Debra R. Holder of Las Vegas; two brothers, William Lessie Holder and Harvey Holder, and one sister, Harriet William, all of Franklin; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1-8 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be noon Saturday in Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Madison Ave. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Lee Holley

Lee Holley, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Ennis, Texas. A resident for more than 40 years, he was a retired water treatment company owner and a World War II and Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Olene; one son, Steve Holley of Las Vegas; one brother, Kenneth Holley of Ennis; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Verne F. Holmes Sr.

Verne F. Holmes Sr., 82, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born July 25, 1917, in Casper, Wyo. A resident for 53 years, he was a retired casino executive who worked at several Strip locations.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; three daughters, Caro Lynn Kirkpatrick of Buhl, Idaho, and Mary Darleene Robinson and Marguerite Kathryn Holmes, both of Las Vegas; two sons, Robert G. Holmes and Verne F. Holmes Jr., both of Las Vegas; two stepdaughters, Debbie Hedges of Minneapolis and Dianne Campbell of Salt Lake City; two stepsons, Richard Tibbles of Las Vegas and Raymond Tibbles of Houston; 21 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 1111 Michael Way. Graveside services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Palm Memorial Park.

Arthur McGill

Arthur McGill, 33, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born July 31, 1930, in Chicago. A resident for 33 years, he was a city of Las Vegas grounds supervisor for 22 years, was retired from the Air Force after 22 years and was a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by three sons, Michael McGill and Joseph McGill, both of Las Vegas, and Timothy McGill of Colorado; one daughter, Patricia McGill of Las Vegas; one brother, Bill McGill of Illinois; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Friday in Woodlawn Cemetery. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

John Thomas McKevitt

John Thomas McKevitt, 77, of Henderson died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 25, 1922, in New York. A resident for many years, he was a technician.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; one son, John McKevitt of California; and three grandchildren.

Derrick Newton

Derrick Newton, 71, of Pahrump died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 19, 1929, in England. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was a Royal Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; one son, William D. Newton of Pahrump; four sisters, Gladys Bodkin and Dorothy Yates, both of England, and Georgina Randall and Fay Roedy, both of Florida; and three brothers, Benny Newton and Collin Newton, both of England, and Keith Newton of California.

Terry E. Orton

Terry E. Orton, 52, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 14, 1948, in Prosser, Wash. A resident for 46 years, he was an electrician and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 357.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his mother, Eula Lee Orton of North Las Vegas; one sister, Linda Hickey of Las Vegas; and one brother, Gene Orton of Reno.

Eduardo J. Palomo Sr., 88, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born April 20, 1911, in Cuba. A resident for nine years, he was a court secretary in the Cuban government.

He is survived by his wife, Yolanda; two sons, Eduardo Palomo Jr. of Las Vegas; one daughter, Faustina Toledo of New Jersey; four sisters, Zoila Palomo of Cuba and Lillian, Nellie and Maggie, all of Miami; and four grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., followed by burial in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Morgan 'Gil' Riley

Morgan "Gil" Riley, 46, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born April 29, 1953, in Miami. A resident for 18 years, he was a typist and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; three daughters, Makia M. Riley of Baltimore and Maria Nicole Riley and Dominisha Riley, both of Las Vegas; one son, Maurice Morgan Riley, his mother, Mary E. Riley, and one brother, Phillip S. Riley, all of Las Vegas; one stepbrother, Albert Allen Riley; and one grandchild.

Joe L. Rodriguez

Joe L. Rodriguez, 78, of Henderson died Friday in a local hospice. He was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Holtville, Calif. A lifelong resident, he was a postmaster, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club and Spanish choir at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years to the day, Herminia; one son, Joe Rodriguez Jr. of Henderson; three daughters, Fabiola Pavel and Amalia Mancha, both of Las Vegas, and Sonia Rodriguez of Henderson; three sisters, Connie Perez of California, Margie Lackey of Washington and Helen Hamilton of Carson City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Aaron H. Shifrin

Aaron H. Shifrin, 82, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Jersey City, N.J. A resident for one year, he was a musician and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Sue Shifrin-Cassidy of Las Vegas and Barbara Damashek of San Francisco; one stepson, Harold Shifrin of Florida; and one grandchild.

Gerard Vitanzo

Gerard Vitanzo, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 3, 1930, in New Jersey. A resident for 17 years, he was a machinist and a veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Gerard P. Vitanzo Jr. of Oceangate, N.J., and Joseph Vitanzo of New Brunswick, N.J.; one daughter, Laura Vitanzo of Carteret, N.J.; one brother, Louis Vitanzo of Tennessee; and one sister, Rose Repose of Hilton Head, S.C.
