Lake Mead: More popular than ever

More than 9.3 million people visited the Lake Mead National Recreation Area during 1999, a 2.6 percent increase from last year.
In 1998 the National Park Service recorded an eight-year low of just over 9.1 million visitors. The 1999 total of 9,351,237 is below the all-time high of 10,195,546 reached in 1995.
According to vehicle counters at 11 points throughout the recreation area, the most heavily used road is the U.S. 93 access to Boulder Beach, lat year nearly 2.5 million people entered the area.
