'Warrior' author holds lecture series
A monthlong lecture series to mark National Women's History Month will begin 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, with Phoebe Eng, author of "Warrior Lessons" and founding member of the Asian Pacific American Women's Leadership institute.
The free lecture will be followed by a reception. Call 382-2523.
Competition covers history and culture
The seventh annual African American History Challenge Final Four Competition will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at KLVX Channel 10 studios, 4210 Channel 10 Drive.
The challenge is a team competition among area high schools on African American history and culture. The program will be televised 6 p.m. Sunday on Channel 10. This year's host will be former news anchor Juana Hart. A reception for participants will be held from 3-5 p.m. March 4 at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Rainbow Blvd.

Kavanagh speaks on 18th century
Thomas Kavanagh of the University of California, Berkeley, will lecture on "Cards and Culture in Eighteenth-Century France" 7:30 p.m. Friday at UNLV's Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History. The lecture, also part of the international conference of the Western Society for 18th Century Studies, is free.

College seeks cream of mechanical crop
Community College of Southern Nevada's Automotive Department will host the VICA Regional Skills Nevada Automotive Competition 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday on the Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
The contest is sponsored by local automotive suppliers and new car dealerships, including Honda West, Fairway Chevrolet, Desert Chrysler, Findlay Toyota, Friendly Ford, Nevada Dodge, Fletcher Jones Chevrolet, Desert GMC, United Nissan, Meyers Western Auto Parts, Carquest, Charleston Auto Parts, CSK Checker Auto Parts, Cashman Cadillac and Desert GMC.
More than 100 area high school students will perform procedures and take written exams to be judged in eight categories of automotive repair. Judges will determine who will represent Southern Nevada at a state competition next month in Reno. Call 651-7303.
AASN's annual dinner held at Four Seasons
The Alzheimer's Association Southern Nevada Chapter will be hosting its 2000 Gala Dinner 6:30 p.m. March 4 at the Four Seasons featuring recording artist Mel Carter and honoring Steve Rigazio, senior vice president of Nevada Power.
