Letter: We should not return youngster to his homeland

If not, then it is truly baffling that the moment the father was aware that Elian was alive and well and with his relatives in Miami, he did not immediately fly to Miami to reclaim his son.
Perhaps the United States is wrong, but Cuba is playing games with us. They send two grandmothers on an expedition that turned into an exhibition.
The article regarding their return to Cuba, and what the one grandmother boasted about what she did to Elian, is outrageous.
It doesn't matter what the "Hispanic culture" is, to do this to a 6-year-old child is disgusting.
If that is what the child will be subjected to upon his return to Cuba, then we need to rethink our stance about returning him to his father and his culture.
