Group pays homage to Pillsbury bake-off
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada is sponsoring two baking events to celebrate a $10,000 donation to the group from Pillsbury and Albertson's and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pillsbury Bake-Off.
The 50th Pillsbury Bake-off will be held in San Francisco Feb. 26-29. Call 731-2227 for more information.
Local competition extends deadline
The deadline for nominations for the 15th annual Rose Awards has been extended to March 15. The awards are given by the Professional Black Women's Alliance.
The winners will be honored at the 2000 Rose Awards Banquet July 15 at the Alexis Park Resort. Call 631-0000.
Road project topic of public info meeting
The Nevada Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration are holding a public information meeting on the design to widen U.S. 95 from the Rainbow Curve to Cheyenne Avenue 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Brinley Middle School cafeteria, 2480 Maverick St.

'Joints in Motion' seeking recruits
The Arthritis Foundation is seeking people to join its Joints in Motion Training Team to run or walk in the Dublin, Ireland, Marathon Oct. 30.
To join, participants must collect $4,200 in pledges. Fund-raising clinics and a 20-week marathon training program are available.
Team members will receive automatic marathon entry fee, round-trip airfare to Dublin, six days and seven nights of accommodations and team apparel.
The deadline for registration is May.

Southwest Gas honors civic-minded employees
Southwest Gas Corp. recently recognized Mike Bernstein and Mike Bailey as 1999's top volunteers in Southern Nevada.
Bernstein and Bailey received the company's Community Spirit Award.
Bernstein is a pilot for the company. As a five-year member of Search and Rescue, he has rescued many lost or injured outdoors enthusiasts and helped rescue six people caught in the July flood. Bailey is a member of the Southern Nevada Sales Department at Southwest Gas and has chaired many fund-raising and volunteer events.
Immunizations
Health district immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21. The following clinics will be open this week, Feb. 23 - 29:

HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
PARADISE PARK CLINIC: Recreation Center, 4770 Harrison Drive, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday.
