Perkins wins heat, feature on LVMS dirt track

Jim Perkins swept the second IMCA Modified race of the year Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's half-mile dirt oval.
Perkins won his heat race and then took the early lead in the 20-lap feature race. He held the point through the caution-filled race to earn his first win in 2000.
"I don't like leading that early in a race," Perkins said. "I don't know what is going on behind me. I decided to stay where I was and it paid off. It was a great race. It is always a pleasure to get a win."
Jason Pike finished second while last week's winner Dan Fitzgerald was third.
In the 15-lap Legends main event, 16-year-old Kyle Busch earned his first win of the season. Although Greg Albright was gaining on him in the end, Busch led the race flag-to-flag.
In the Thunder Stox division, Steve Taylor beat Bob Taylor by less than an inch to take his second win in took weeks. Chris Bray and Chuck Trickle rounded out the top five.
