Country radio cares for kids
KWNR 95.5-FM will host its eighth annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon on Thursday and Friday and will broadcast live from the Boulevard Mall.
The event raises money for research and treatment for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For more information, call (800) 227-6737.
Clint Holmes leads celebration of culture
Entertainer Clint Holmes will be featured as the guest speaker at the fourth annual Celebration of Culture at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Clark County Library Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library, working in coordination with the Rec Mobile Program and support from the Clark County School District, targets at risk neighborhoods that have minimal access to recreational facilities and services by bringing activities to them.

Resort offers ski lessons
Beginning in March, Clark County Parks and Recreation and the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will be offering ski lessons for children ages 6-12 at the ski resort at Mount Charleston.
Sessions B and C consist of three consecutive Thursdays. Session B begins March 2 and ends March 16, registration deadline is Thursday. Session C begins March 23 and ends April 6, registration will be accepted through March 16. Registration will be taken at the following community centers: Paradise Park, 4770 S. Harrison Street; Helen Meyer, 4525 New Forest Drive; Desert Breeze, 8275 Spring Mountain Road; or at the Sunset Park Administration Office, 2601 E. Sunset Road.
The cost of each session is $75 and includes: transportation to and from the resort, ski rental, half-day lift ticket, a one hour lesson, and qualified adult supervision. Participants will be picked up and dropped off at Paradise Park or Helen Meyer community centers. For more information, call 455-8334 or 455-8206.
Library presents day of song and dance
The African-American Cultural Celebration and Luncheon: "Celebration of Culture IV" will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Clark County Library Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The cost of the luncheon is $8 while the program is free.
Festivities will include song, dance and educational segments highlighting African-American culture. The public is encouraged to RSVP for the luncheon by Tuesday by calling 455-8200.
Panel examines education, welfare and government
The Anti-Defamation League will present two panel discussions for the community from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The panel discussion with leaders in education, social welfare and government will address the eroding wall separating church and state in regards to education and social services. U.S. District Court Judge Phillip Pro will be the moderator.
CCSN hosting 'free college' workshop
Community College of Southern Nevada will host three Millennium Scholarship information nights for parents and students. According to lawmakers and educators, the new program will literally mean "free college" for many Nevada high school graduates.
Founded by Gov. Kenny Guinn and approved by the 1999 Nevada Legislature, the Millennium Scholarship program provides up to $10,000 for tuition and costs to attend Nevada colleges and universities.

200 employers expected to attend
As many as 200 employers are expected to participate in UNLV Career Day 2000 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday on the concourse of the Thomas & Mack Center. Career Day, now in its 21st year, is sponsored by UNLV's office of career services and by UNLV student government. For more information, call the office of career services at 895-3495.
Cardiologist gives healthy heart advice
A cardiologist will discuss how to keep your heart healthy and how to care for your heart after a problem occurs in this meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, 2075 E. Flamingo Road. To register, call 369-7911.
Weed and seed
The Grand Opening of the City of Las Vegas Weed and Seed Initiative by the SeedTech Computer Training Lab will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Charles I. West Middle School, 2050 Sapphire Stone, Room 201.
