Letter: Let D.C. know to correct ‘notch’

Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 | 9:53 a.m.

Sen. Harry Reid is the author of the only legislation pertaining to us "notch babies." He introduced a bill in Congress during the 102nd Congress. This bill was approved by the Senate but was rejected by the Republican House this past year, which was the 105th Congress. The 105th Congress would not even take the bill to the floor for a vote. This tells me that the Republican Congress does not care about us.

The Social Security "notch" was created in 1977 when Congress revised the computation formula for Social Security benefits. This took vital benefits from those of us who were unfortunate to have been born between 1917 and 1926. This discrepancy will continue until we do something about it. Remember this is an election year. Reid can only do so much. He has been trying for a long time.

Write to the president at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. and to Reid at the 528 Hart Office Building, both in Washington, D.C. 20510. Remember to vote. This is the only way that we have to make a wrong right.
