Letter: Good cop helps elderly woman
Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 | 9:20 a.m.
Bad cops have had a lot of publicity lately. Sunday I went to the Big League tournament at Cashman Field.
Parking space was scarce and I had to walk a bit far and climb six or seven steps to the ticket office level. I am an old lady and 82 now. Some fatigue must have shown. There was a policeman standing guard at the top of the steps.
He said, "How far did you have to walk?" I answered and then said, "What are you doing out here?" He answered, "Working," and I said something like, "On a day like this? Go on in and see the fun."
The officer said, "Do you have to buy a ticket?" I said, "yes." Then he pulled a ticket out of his pocket and gave it to me, refusing any payment.
Good cop. I'll remember him.
