Las Vegas area fishing report

Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 | 9:36 a.m.

LAKE MEAD: Fishing is continuing its winter pattern with very slow action for largemouth and striped bass, but fair success for rainbow trout following weekly plants by the Nevada Divison of Wildlife.

Stripers are still in deep water with boaters reporting they are finding the fish at depths of more than 100 feet. About the only action for stripers in the Boulder Basin has come from the Hemenway Harbor area where boaters have caught small numbers of fish by drifting with anchovies.

Trolling whole anchovies has produced a few stripers for boaters who have been fishing in the Muddy River area and around Fish Island in the Overton Arm.

LAKE MOHAVE: Last week's trout plant at Cottonwood Cove paid off for an Arizona angler who boated a 53 1/2-pound striped bass on Feb. 9 near Carp Cove south of Cottonwood. One party of boaters reported to the Division of Wildlife that they hooked several large stripers last week, but their lines broke before they could land the fish.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Ice is off the lakes and fishing has been fair for rainbow trout that were stocked in the fall. The water in Cold Springs Reservoir is murky and fishing has been below par.
