PHOENIX -- An estimated 1,000 people were forced to camp out at the airport here, stranded after a computer problem Thursday forced America West Airlines to cancel more than 100 flights nationwide.
Patty Nowack, airline spokeswoman, said 86 flights were canceled Thursday and another 40 today, although the computer problem was fixed by Thursday evening.
America West is the second-largest carrier at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
The cancellations and delays occurred after a computer system that prepares flight plans for the pilots and crews quit working.
Nowack said the problem didn't pose a safety threat.
