Parks director to take newly created position

North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Director Eric Dabney has been promoted to head the city's newly created Administrative Services Department.
His position, which went into effect this week, will put Dabney in charge of a department that provides for internal services including computer needs, customer service issues, policies and internal communications. Dabney will oversee about 15 employees, City Manager Pat Importuna said.
The creation of the department was recommended by a management and organizational audit conducted last year by Ralph Andersen & Associates.
Dabney, who has been the parks and recreation director for 17 years, said the promotion caught him by surprise.
"I feel good about it," he said. "It offers new challenges, and it's always good to have a breath of fresh air."
Importuna said Dabney, who earns $98,217 annually, will be seeing a "several thousand dollar pay increase." The salary range for the administrative services director is $71,780 to $102,542.
Dabney will handle both positions until a new parks and recreation director is selected through a nationwide search, which began Wednesday.
Importuna said he plans to fill the parks and recreation job before he leaves his job as city manager June 11.
