Henderson leads Silver Bandits to 109-100 victory over Trenton
Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 | 9:44 a.m.
J.R. Henderson scored 29 points to lead a Silver Bandits attack that had five players in double figures as Las Vegas (22-12) shot down the Trenton Stars (17-17) 109-100 Wednesday night in front of an announced crowd of 2,406 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The win was the seventh in the last eight and 19 in the last 21 games for the Silver Bandits. Las Vegas is now within a half-game of St. Louis for the IBL West lead.
Trenton held a 51-40 lead at halftime until Silver Bandits guard Isaac Burton took over. Burton, who averages 17.5 points per game, was held to only two points in the first half. He exploded for 21 in second half during a 23-4 Las Vegas run to finish with 23 points while dishing out a game-high 10 assists. Forward Rocky Walls turned in his league-best 22nd double-double performance with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Also in double figures for Las Vegas were Harold Ellis with 14 (all in the second half) and Jeff Martin with 12.
Dennis Edwards and Ray Tutt led the Stars with 23 points each. Tyrone Grant contributed a double-double performance with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Ryan Lorthridge chipped in 17 points to go along with 5 assists.
Contrary to reports, Trenton's Lloyd Daniels, a former UNLV recruit, was not AWOL; rather, he was sick in his hotel room with a stomach flu.
Las Vegas will gear up for a weekend series with St. Louis at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday afternoon and Sunday night. Saturday's game will be televised live on Cox Cable Metro 48 in Las Vegas and KPVM-TV 41 in Pahrump at 2 p.m.
