The 31st annual World Series of Poker, the world's most prestigious poker tournament, will begin April 20 at Binion's Horseshoe, the downtown Las Vegas hotel-casino announced Monday.
The tournament will feature 25 events, up from 16 in 1999. The World Series will culminate in a no-limit hold 'em championship event ending May 18. The winner of the final game is guaranteed $1 million, though the casino expects that the winner of this year's no-limit tournament could win as much as $1.5 million.
The buy-in fee for the no-limit tournament is $10,000.
Since its inception, the World Series of Poker has awarded more than $140 million in prize money.
