William George Abretske
William George Abretske, 57, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born March 19, 1942, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 17 years, he was a miner and an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Tom; one daughter, Brenda; seven brothers; and four sisters.
Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Bettie L. Brudy
Bettie L. Brudy, 69, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born June 12, 1930, in Tennessee. A resident for eight years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Sol; one daughter, Leslie E. Brudy of Toms River, N.J.; two sons, James Mitchell Brudy of Toms River and Arthur J. Brudy of Las Vegas; her father, Arthur J. Costa of Whiting, N.J.; and one grandchild.
Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.
Diane L. Burling
Diane L. Burling, 59, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Plainfield, Conn. A resident for six years, she was a casino shift manager for nine years.
She is survived by one son, Jay Burling of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Carol Silvia of Groton, Conn., and Nancy Allen of Las Vegas.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St.

Arthur F. Christy
Arthur F. Christy, 76, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 13, 1923, in New York City. A resident for 19 years, he was a retired chief of detectives for the New York City Police, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Masons and a former member of the Henderson Civil Service Commission, Henderson Advisory Board to the Planning Commission, Henderson Advisory Board to All-American Cities and Henderson Friends of the Library.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; and one daughter, Kathi Christy of Las Vegas.
Visitation is scheduled 10-11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Joseph P. Courtney
Joseph P. Courtney, 77, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born March 12, 1922, in St. Johns, Newfoundland. A resident for 27 years, he retired as a senior manager of sky captains for Allied Aviation Service Corp. at McCarran International Airport after 37 years and was a World War II Canadian veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; two daughters, Judy Lund of Redwood City, Calif., and Elizabeth McMahon of Henderson; four sons, Nicholas Courtney of Redwood City, David Courtney and Michael Courtney, both of Las Vegas, and Andrew Courtney of Sparks; one sister, Elizabeth Lyons of Gainesville, Fla.; two brothers, John Courtney of Ottawa, Ontario, and Justin Courtney of Penticton, British Columbia; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Burial will be private.

John Foster Dawson
John Foster Dawson, 58, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born Nov. 4, 1941, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; three daughters, Dina Dawson and Erin Dawson, both of Las Vegas, and Connie Smith of Spearfish, S.D.; six sons, John F. Dawson II, Michael Dawson, Thomas Dawson, Anthony Smith, Joey Smith and Smokey Dawson, and his mother, LaReene Dawson, all of Las Vegas; two brothers, Robert Dawson of Las Vegas and James Dawson of Golden Valley, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.

Ann DiBenedetto
Ann DiBenedetto, 81, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born July 2, 1918, in Illinois. A resident for 30 years, she was a retired restaurant hostess and a member of American Business Women's Association.
She is survived by one son, Michael A. DiBenedetto, and two daughters, Patricia A. Hoagland and Joanna M. Baez, all of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Wednesday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.
Arvar W. 'Bud' Elkins Jr.
Arvar W. "Bud" Elkins Jr., 69, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Geary, Okla. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired roller for Bethlehem Steel Co. of 32 years and a Korean War Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Allena K.; two daughters, Arvette Loucks of Anchorage, Alaska, and Belinda Miranda of Downey, Calif.; one son, Arvar W. Elkins III of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one sister, Quilla Aona of Huntington Beach; two brothers, Norval Elkins of Kingman, Ariz., and Dennis Elkins of Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Waldo L. Foltz
Waldo L. Foltz, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 19, 1927, in Harrod, Ohio. A resident for nine years, he was a retired grocery consultant and a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Verna; three daughters, Karen Montgomery of Omaha, Neb., Denise Koolmees of Paramount, Calif., and Tina Woo of Irvine, Calif.; one son, Gary Foltz of Angelus Oaks, Calif.; one sister, Imogene Mansfield of Deshler, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

Kathryn M. Hanson
Kathryn M. Hanson, 85, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Minnesota. A resident for 21 years, she was an administrative assistant for Summa Corp./Howard Hughes Corp.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Short.
She is survived by one daughter, Juelann K. Cathey; one brother, Richard L. Short of Florida; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Troy M. Hardesty
Troy M. Hardesty, 28, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. He was born Dec. 12, 1971, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident of Southern Nevada, he was a hotel security officer and won two national championships as a martial artist.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his parents, Herbert and Joyce Hardesty of Las Vegas; four brothers, Randy Levy of Las Vegas and Kirk Hardesty, Michael Hardesty and Joseph Givens, all of New Orleans; two sisters, Shari Weber of New Orleans and Leslie Sission of Los Angeles; and his grandmother, Ella Blue of New Orleans.
Visitation is scheduled 2-4 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
Leroy Hawks
Leroy Hawks, 53, of Laughlin died Friday in Laughlin. He was born May 25, 1947, in Michigan. A resident for several months, he was a fisherman and a veteran.
He is survived by one sister, Charlotte Kearns of Minnesota.

David Ebert Jordan
David Ebert Jordan, 74, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Illinois. A resident for six years, he was a carpenter and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by two sons, Eric and Davey; two daughters, Nola and Coreen; one brother, Joseph Myers; two sisters, Sally Lamplot and Barbara Greaves; and one grandchild.

Evaline A. Kelly
Evaline A. Kelly, 67, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Michigan. A resident for 26 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph A.; one daughter, Jean E. Talkowski of Wisconsin; one sister, Ida Stepke of Michigan; two brothers, Roger Harchis of Michigan and Ray Harchis of Tennessee; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Clifford 'Frank' Menges
Clifford 'Frank' Menges, 74, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Eufala, Okla. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired drilling consultant for an offshore oil rig, a World War II Navy veteran and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Diana Ruffino of Oceano, Calif.; three sons, Jeffrey Menges, Chirstopher Menges and Timothy Menges, all of Las Vegas; four stepsons, Bruce Kelley and Kris Miller, both of Portland, Ore., and Maurice Miller and Stephen Miller, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Isabelle Sloan, and two brothers, Don Menges and Ron Menges, all of Arroya Grande, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Emma B. Petersen, 87, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Missouri. A resident for 35 years, she was a retired hotel waitress.
She is survived by one son, Warren Petersen of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Scagnelli, 52, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. He was born Oct. 17, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for four years, he was a retired towing company owner-operator.
He is survived by one daughter, Dori Ann Scagnelli of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one brother, Louis N. Scagnelli of North Las Vegas.
A memorial service was 11 a.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.
Ray Shay
Ray Shay, 81, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Hominy, Okla. A resident for 52 years, he was a retired iron worker, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Las Vegas Iron Workers Local 433 and Kingman, Ariz., Masonic Lodge 22.
He is survived by his wife, Yayoi; and one son, Michael Shay of San Jose, Calif.
Visitation is scheduled 1-3 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park.
Mardell Sivley
Mardell Sivley, 70, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born June 14, 1920, in Peoria, Ill. A resident for 1 1/2 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Verlin D. Jr.; one daughter, Susan D. Sullivan of Meridian, Idaho; one son, Scott D. Sivley of Santa Clarita, Calif.; one sister, Doris Norman of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

Ruth Small, 93, of Boulder City died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born May 6, 1906, in Illinois. A resident for five years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Robert Small of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and one daughter, Charlotte Stein of Florida.

John 'J.P.' Thomas
John "J.P." Thomas, 63, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born June 21, 1936, in El Paso, Texas. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired self-employed in the laundry business.
He is survived by his companion, Ronald F. Myers of Las Vegas; and two nieces, Geri Paula Shearer of Sequim, Wash., and Michelle Brown of El Paso, Texas.

He is survived by his parents, Alan and Donna Tillery, one sister, Bridget Tillery, and his grandparents, Orville and Betty Tillery, all of Henderson.
