Letter: Unborn children have rights, too

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 | 9:08 a.m.

Susan writes that a woman shouldn't be forced to carry a baby to term if she was raped. When I was growing up mothers told their children that two wrongs don't make a right. It's still true.

The argument that women can do with their bodies as they choose isn't true. We have laws that keep a woman (or man) from doing what they choose to do with their bodies. Suicide is illegal, so is prostitution. Those who choose abortion are not choosing what happens to the woman's body, they want to choose what happens to the baby's body. The baby is living in the mother, but they are two different people.

Unborn babies don't have any laws to protect them; in fact, there are laws that try to prevent anyone from protecting them. We are called to aid, defend and assist each other, especially these defenseless unborn humans. We are not disconnected from each other.

Saving babies can only be accomplished by granting every baby, born and unborn, basic human dignity: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. No baby should be having his or her life ended because the mother opts for a "medical procedure."

Pro-abortionists aren't interested in the truth; they just want to abort babies, live human beings, members of our planet.
