Las Vegas bureau opening

The Los Angeles Times, one of the nation's largest and most respected newspapers, plans to open a one-person Las Vegas bureau this spring.
Tom Gorman, a 27-year veteran of the Times currently covering the Inland Empire region of Southern California, was named chief of the new bureau. Gorman will cover Las Vegas and Nevada from the Las Vegas office.
"There's a great affinity between Las Vegas and California," Gorman said. "For years, we've been sending reporters to Las Vegas and Nevada for stories. There's such an interest within our readership that it makes sense to put somewhere there permanently."
Gorman said he'll look for feature and trend stories "that will have broad interest to all of our readers, in terms of state and national interest."
The bureau could open as early as mid-March.
