CARSON CITY -- State Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman said today her agency has joined in an international effort to settle the claims of Holocaust survivors and victims who held insurance policies.
"We know there are many Holocaust survivors in Nevada," Molasky-Arman said. "Many of these victims are an aging population and this may be our last chance to help them recover their losses."
Starting today, families of those believed to have held active dowry, education and life insurance policies that were affected by the Holocaust can submit claims to the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims.
All claims must be filed by Feb. 1, 2002, and they will be resolved within two years of filing.
Individuals who believe they have an insurance claim can request an application from international commission at P.O. Box 163, Wall Street Station, New York, N. Y. 10268; visit the commission's website at www.ICHEIC.org; call toll free 1-800-957-3203 or contact the state Insurance Division at (702) 486-4009 in Las Vegas or (775) 687-4270 in Northern Nevada.
Glenn Pomeroy, insurance commissioner in North Dakota and former president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, said, "With the launch of this claims resolution process, we can begin to correct that decades old injustice with respect to insurance policies.
"Holocaust survivors and heirs can contact the international commission or any state insurance department to seek information or assistance," Pomeroy said.
