Letter: Conserving energy is top priority
Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 | 9:28 a.m.
Trying to do our part to conserve energy, my husband and I requested our new home have energy-efficient windows. We were told by the builder that doing so would cost $1,000, which astounded us. We called Nevada Power to find out about rebates and incentives, and were told there were none. This makes no sense!
High costs of energy-efficient materials force many people to settle for less-efficient ones, thereby wasting electricity. Then Nevada Power wants to hit us with residential rate hikes, all the while casinos shamelessly use thousands (if not millions) of watts of valuable electricity. Builders, buyers and businesses in Nevada should be encouraged to use more efficient materials before another energy crisis occurs!
